So in this big, bad, modern world are there any heroes left ?? Is there anyone to look up to ??? Through history there has been many like Countess Markievicz, Oscar Wilde, Anne Frank, Mahatma Gandhi, Bette Davis and Freddie Mercury but in today's overly commercial world is there any truly inspirational people left ?? Who can inspire us today ?? I think there is and here is my list of the top 4 most inspirational people of our day and age:
1.
P!nk: Many may disagree with me but I do genuinely feel that Ms Moore is such an inspiration for today's youth. P!nk doesn't sing about how cool her rich boyfriend is, she sings about how boring he is, P!nk doesn't sing about shopping and her partying, she sings about the need for people to love themselves. P!nk has always been the different child in the family of super stardom. She wasn't another Beyonce, another Britney Spears or another Christina Aguilera she was P!nk and her fans love her for that. As long as P!nk stays pink she'll always be loved and will be an inspiration for anyone different and anyone who worries for the future of society.
2.
Meryl Streep: Many of you may argue that Meryl doesn't belong on this list due to her age but I have to disagree. For nearly four decades she has been dominating Hollywood and she has never been anything but humble about it. Meryl may not particularly teach us how to love ourselves like P!nk but I think she teaches us to love the world around us and to always be humble. I think this was most obvious when won the Oscar for Leading actress this year. In her speech Meryl said:
"I really understand I'll never be up here again. I really want to thank all my colleagues, all my friends. I look out here and I see my life before my eyes. My old friends, my new friends. Really, this is such a great honour, but the thing that counts the most with me, is the friendships and the love and the sheer joy we have shared making movies together. My friends, thank you all of you, departed and here, for this inexplicably wonderful career. Thank you so much"
If that does not teach us all something about modesty and how we should treat others I don't know what does.
3.
Mary Robinson: Mary Robinson is in my opinion one of the most inspirational Irish politicians in the history of our great state !! Many may feel that Ms Robinson has not really done much other than holding the position of president but those people are ignorant and uneducated !!! (No offence to anyone .... except the idiots :P). Ms Robinson is not just an ex president she is a warrior. Ms Robinson has helped Senator David Norris fight for gay rights, has been the UN
High Commissioner for Human Rights, has been Chancellor of Trinity College, has set up or helped set up a million organisations such as the Council of Women World Leaders and most impressively has been a member of The Elders a group of retired but extremely influential politicians such as Nelson Mandela and Aung San Suu Kyi who try and change the world. If I haven't given enough reasons to find Ms Robinson inspirational then I genuinely don't know what else I can do !!! :P
4.
Anne Hathaway: Anne and I go WAY back. I have loved Ms Hathaway since I was 7 or 8 and I have followed her career religiously since then. I find Anne is just filled with such beauty, kindness and humanity that it surprises me that anyone can find reason not to like her. I remember the first time I watched Rachel Getting Married for the first time two and a half year ago and just crying because Anne's performance was just so beautiful. And this is not the only time she's made me cry with her beauty. I know I've already used this quote in my blog post
Love is a human experience but frankly my dear I don't give a damn !!! :P
"In my household, being gay was, and is, no big deal. When my brother came out,
we hugged him, said we loved him and that was that. Just for the record, we
don’t feel that there is actually anything alternative about our family values.
I don’t consider myself just an ally to the LGBT community, I consider myself
your family. If anyone, ever, tries to hurt you, I’m going to give them hell.
There are people who’ve said that I’m being brave for being openly supportive of
gay marriage and gay adoption. With all due respect, I’m humbly decent. I’m not
being brave, I’m being a decent human being. Love is a human experience, not a
political statement"
If that is not a woman who is inspirational then I'm not sure that one exists !!!
I must apologise for the prejudice in this post. I know that all of my modern inspirations are women but as a feminist I find myself always falling for the heroine so I was bound to find women inspirational over men. Sorry !!! :P
